Browsers try to download PHP files instead of run them

Hi,

I couldn't find any question similar to this in this forum:

I downloaded XAMPP for the Mac from here:
http://www.apachefriends.org/download.p ... -0.7.0.dmg
...and installed it on my Mac OS X 10.4.9.

It installed itself very simply but when I started it, and went to http://localhost/, all my browsers offered an index.php file to be downloaded, instead of displaying the web page.

When I press the Start button for 'All components' I see this message:

It seems kind of strange because there was nothing to configure, so I don't know what could have gone wrong.
