1st question on XAMPP

Postby satimis » 06. October 2007 13:04

Hi folks,

XAMPP is completely new to new. Just came across it on Internet browsing.

Please advise;
Does XAMPP include Linux OS? Or it has to be installed on a Linux OS? In the latter case which Linux OS is preferrable avoiding to have duplicate Apache, MySQL, PHP, etc. In the former case, if YES, can XAMPP be installed and run on VMWare server as guest OS?

TIA

Thanks for your advice.

On installing "XAMPP for Linux" would it install Apache2, MySQL, PHP, etc. on Linux OS or it just config/setup those packages which are already running on the Linux OS?. If "XAMPP for Linux" installs Apache2, MySQL, PHP, etc. then on installing the Linux OS I must avoid installing those packages otherwise they would be duplicate. Is there any problem in case of duplication? TIA

Yes.

You can start only one web/database server at the same time on the same port (web: tcp 80 / db: tcp 3306).

I'll have a go.

Now I'm building a VMWare virtual machine with Ubuntu as Host OS and CentOS 5 as Guest OS.

I have "CentOS-5_lamp.x86_64.zip" download on /home/user/ and decompressed as;
Code: Select all
$ ls -a CentOS-5_lamp.x86_64
.
..
CentOS-5_lamp.x86_64-s001.vmdk
CentOS-5_lamp.x86_64-s002.vmdk
CentOS-5_lamp.x86_64-s003.vmdk
CentOS-5_lamp.x86_64-s004.vmdk
CentOS-5_lamp.x86_64-s005.vmdk
CentOS-5_lamp.x86_64.vmdk
CentOS-5_lamp.x86_64.vmsd
CentOS-5_lamp.x86_64.vmx
nvram
readme

I'll test XAMPP on CentOS 5.

Any point I have to pay attention? TIA
