XAMPP on WIN 2K REBOOT

Could someone pleas help, I work with XAMPP several years ago then got away from it. Now getting back to it with a new machine. I'm running windows 2000 pro. downloaded and installed latest ver. of xampp. All went well except no shortcuts, no problem executed xampp-control from run. The control pannel came up fine but only for about 30 secounds then the machine rebooted. This happen every time I try to run xampp. I have shud down zonealarm, spybot, ad-aware with no luck.What am I missing? How do I get this to run?
