Wrong root folder

Problems with the Linux version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

Wrong root folder

Postby captainmack » 24. August 2007 05:16

my site was running fine until one day i tried to view it and it showed the default apache page, meaning there was nothing installed in the directory. i checked that directory and saw all of my files were there and intact, meaning that it must have somehow changed where the root directory is located.

how can i correct this problem?

thanks in advance,
jack

#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "/opt/lampp" will be interpreted by the
# server as "/opt/lampp/logs/foo.log".

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "/opt/lampp"

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 80

#
# Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) Support
#
# To be able to use the functionality of a module which was built as a DSO you
# have to place corresponding `LoadModule' lines at this location so the
# directives contained in it are actually available _before_ they are used.
# Statically compiled modules (those listed by `httpd -l') do not need
# to be loaded here.
#
# Example:
# LoadModule foo_module modules/mod_foo.so

Did you make a recent change (on purpose or by accident) to anyone of the files below?

I have never opened those in my life. I had actually not even touched the server when this happened. One day it worked the next day it didnt.

My site has been known to be a target of a certain hacker, and now that it is hosted on my own server, I am sure I am less secure than my old host. Maybe this is something malicious?

How would I fix the problem then if it was a crash?

Of course I believe you when you tell us you have never touched those files. But if malicious software has infected your machine it could have changed any files without you knowing it. That's why I would suggest to check the machine - very easy to do of course now it is hosted on your own server - for a change of critical files.

How would I go about checking for a change in those critical files?
Sorry, i've never ran a server, or even used debian. Thanks for being patient with me.
