XAMPP and OSCommerce

Just installed XAMPP and OSCommerce on Windows XP in a Virtual Workstation.
Trying to set up a test site but have run into some problem with it.
Localhost, PHP, SQL all work fine.

I cannot get into my OSCommerce admin page for the site.
I keep getting the error:

"Server error!

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
Error 500"

I downloaded my working OSCommerce from my website.
Made some changes to get it working in XAMPP.
I can get to the main shopping cart page, browse around as a user,
but cannot access the Admin page for the site.

make sure you have url rewrite mod on in you apache config file
