Fresh install on Windows 10 with password problem

Postby hypGnosis » 24. January 2017 16:10

I installed Xampp just last night & am struggling to set user root's password.

I didn't find a solution in Xampp FAQ ... set password FAQ wasn't helpful.

Installation on Windows 10 in C:\xampp.

I started both Apache and MySQL in Control Panel v3.2.2

I clicked on Shell and got the # prompt.

At the # prompt, I type mysqladmin -u root password 'foo' and get this error:

mysqladmin: connect to server 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'

I tried setting password by enclosing in double quotes and also "[foo]" and get same error.

Can someone help me?

No, because the error message shows that you already set a password for user root.
We don't provide any support via personal channels like PM, email, Skype, TeamViewer!

Altrea, Thank you for your quick reply.

So, now my problem is when I enter what should have been my password, I get the error:
Error 1045: (28000); Access denied for use 'root'@'localhost' (using password; YES)

I do not recall ever getting any indication that I had successfully initialized a password.

Would you recommend that I remove xampp from my system and do a reinstall?

... or is there some other way to address this problem.

Yes.

Actually, there is another way, BUT (you simply should google for "reset MySQL Root password Xampp" or similar, there are tons of hints out there) it is a pain and quite a big job, if there is no need to keep the data, it is by far easier simply to install a fresh Xampp.

Thank, guys, I did the uninstall > install and have been able to successfully implement root's password.

Now, when logged in as root and attempting to access phpadmin from localhost I get access denied.

Is there some documentation for installation that I overlooked where phpadmin will not accept user root; and I need to create another user with specified privileges?

IOW, is there an official, definitive Installation Guide that I have overlooked?

What?? I do not have the slightest idea, what you are doing there and why you are doing it.

Now, when logged in as root and attempting to access phpadmin from localhost I get access denied.

What?? Again, i do not have the slightest idea, what you are doing there. Where do you login and how do you login? And what do you mean by "access from localhost"?

Are you sure, we are talking about Xampp? I have had lots of Xampp installation, but i never ever have seen kind of login or so in a freshly installed Xampp. I honestly have no idea how to follow your description.
