Cant access MySQL ADMIN from XAMPP control panel

I was going through the early stages of set up and added a password to the root usernames. Now I cant access Admin for MySQL from the Xampp control panel. This is the msg I am receiving.

Cannot connect: invalid settings.
phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in your configuration and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is the first time I have attempted this.
