mySQL won't work with password in XAMPP

Every time I set a password for mysql in the XMPP Security tab, the CD collection PHP (test? I presume?) says that it can't access the mysql database. However If I reset the password (take it off) it works.
How can I get mysql to function with a password?

EDIT: Or is that an example that won't work with the added security?

You have to add the password in the cd collection script too.
Open your \xampp\htdocs\xampp\cds.php and change lines 5 and 78 by entering your password as third parameter of the mysql_connect function.
