Just installed XAMPP, MySQL won't start

I just installed XAMPP on my Windows XP machine. Apache and Filezilla services are starting ok, but MySQL won't start.
I get a dialog box with this message: MySQL Error Number 2003
Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061).

Any idea what I should do to fix this? Thank you in advance.

Try to catch the http://localhost.
If the IIS control panel can display.Then there will not be big problem.
If not, then your IIS service may not configure correctly.

Have you opened port 3306 in your Windows firewall?

Some anti-virus/anti-Trojan software monitors such as ZoneAlarm also may block ports.

There is also an *.err log in the mysql/data folder that may help.

Is there any update on this? I'm having the same problem. I've installed Xampp 1.7.2 on windows xp sp3. According to the control panel Apache and MySql are both running. Port 3306 is "free" but when I try to use phpMyAdmin I get this error message... #2003 - Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)

The error message also tells me that "Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed." Which I suppose means that I have to change my settings but I dont know which file to do that in or what to change the settings to.

Any help?

after the first XAMPP Installation you have to do the apache and mysql installation.
I had this problem because i did not so.
After reading the the readme file and followed step by step it worked.
