XAMPP and Orbis

Postby rps_1969 » 03. January 2010 00:31

Hi all and happy new year.

Can i ask for someone’s help in setting up Orbis using XAMPP.

To start with XAMPP is installed locally in the following: C:\xampp and Orbis is C:\xampp\htdocs

During set up it’s asking me a couple of questions that I am unsure about :? , these being;

1. Now that the database is set up, you'll need to provide information about your website. The site name is the name that will be used throughout the CMS when referring to your site. The public address is the URL of the root (home) of your site, e.g. http://www.novo-ws.com/..

Public address of site root: (max 255 char) ?????

2. To enable users to upload files for use in the CMS, you'll need to specify where you'd like uploads to be stored. By default, Orbis CMS comes with a precreated directory ('uploads') in the same directory as the 'admin' directory. You need to provide the public address (e.g. http://www.novo-ws.com/uploads/) and path (e.g. /public_html/uploads/) of the uploads directory.

Public address of uploads directory: ?????
Path to uploads directory: ?????

Thanks to onyone that can help me out here.

Do you have a public domain name that points to your local PC? As long as your PC is working locally only (in your LAN), you have to apply "localhost" as address. Due to your own description of your installation, the required values are:

Public address of site root: localhost (or http://localhost, i dont know if the protocoll http:// is required here)
Public address of uploads directory: http://localhost/uploads/
Path to uploads directory: C:\xampp\htdocs\uploads\ (or C:/xampp/htdocs/uploads/, you may use slashes as well as backslashes)

Not so difficult....
