counting variable?

Hello,

I am new to PHP and would like to know what does $data[$i][1] or $data[$i][0]mean?

I know them if they are all separated but when all these 3 data combine together, then I have no idea what it is. What are [1] and [0] stand for?

The book doesn't explain what it is, so I wish someone could help me out.
