XAMPP under Vista ~ \php -v ~ PHP CLI has stopped working

Postby Jared » 09. May 2007 17:58

I have installed XAMPP under Windows Vista Business. I installed it with the batch installer, and with UAC turned off. Both Apache and MySQL run as expected. However, when I run php from the command line I get a windows dialog box with this error:

CLI has stopped working.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: php.exe
Application Version:
Application Timestamp: 45ca4e8f
Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll
Fault Module Version: 6.0.6000.16386

In the cmd box, however, the function of php that I called gives its output. For example, when I call php -v, in the cmd box I get

C:\Users\Jared>php -v
PHP 5.2.1 (cli) (built: Feb 7 2007 23:11:26)
Copyright (c) 1997-2007 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.2.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2007 Zend Technologies
with Zend Extension Manager v1.2.0, Copyright (c) 2003-2007, by Zend Technol
with Zend Optimizer v3.2.4, Copyright (c) 1998-2007, by Zend Technologies.

My question is - can I fix this, and if not, does it matter? My PHP scripts seem to work.

I've found the fix to this and wrote about it in my blog here: http://web2.0entrepreneur.com/31/cli-ha ... vista.html

Basically this problem happens because your PHP version currently being used by XAMPP is buggy (5.2.2 or below). simply download the latest PHP binaries (5.2.3 or later) and replace it into your XAMPP's php folder..
