Apache not running

Postby Pale_Eclipse » 12. February 2024 11:38

Hello I just installed Xampp on my windows 10 Enterprise because I want to host a local website based on a LAN however when I try to launch apache it gives me errors and says that it cannot launch
(I'm doing this from the Xampp control panel), I checked the windows event viewer and here's what it tells me:

- The Apache service named reported the following error:
>>> AH00451: no listening sockets available, shutting down

The Apache service named reported the following error:
>>> (OS 10013)Attempt to access the socket in a manner not permitted by the respective access permissions . : AH00072: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80

How can I solve this? Keep in mind that my internet is under a proxy server and its port is 80 so perhaps the socket is already busy with the proxy port? Can anyone help me figure it out?

You have to find out which application blocks Port 80. Proxies usually use different ports (8080 or siimilar). Sometimes it is told in the error messages of the Xampp Control (it also tells you to show all messages here), there is also a Netstat button which may help you, finally you have a task manager which also may help you. We cannot determine the blocking app here, mostly its another webserver or Skype. Sometimes its a VirtualMachine.

I have changed the httpd.conf file to run on port 81 and it seems to go now. Do I have to change some other file or I'm fine now?

Here are few solutions that you can try out,
1. make change in apache port,
- change the port number to something else available, like 8080 or 8888
- access your local website using http://localhost:8080
2. configure your proxy settings in XAMPP
- find the section "ProxyPass / http://"
- configure the proxy address and port
- restart Apache and MySQL
3. run XAMPP as administrator
4. temporarily you can disable antivirus or firewall software, only if they are conflicting
5. try uninstalling and reinstalling XAMPP totally
