running first php on my mac

Hi,
I have xamp installed and when I tape in my browser localhost, I get on the screen "it works!" even when I stop the apache server.
is it the correct behaviour?

No. That means you already have installed another Apache.

so I have two installations or apache?
with one apache, when I stop it it should not say "it works!" right?
any idea how to deal with it?
uninstall both? uninstall one (could it be that one is a part of xamp installation?).
what is the best way to resolve it?

I removed xamp and restarted my MacBook Pro and still when I type "localhost" in my browser, I still get "it works!" even though I stopped apache typing in my terminal "sudo apachectl -k stop".
