Newbie Question

I've just returned to trying to set up a web page using XAMPP and probably Wordpress. I set up an HTML web page many years ago but have never successfully used XAMPP. Wordpress is new to me.

When I installed XAMPP I got errors. I haven 't found a way to post a screen shot.

I need to know where to go to discover what they errors mean and how to fix them. A pointer to tutorials would also be appreciated.
