is 777 permissions safe

Postby dsdsdsdsd » 10. May 2013 09:59

hello;

we have just moved a joomla site to a new server. And the new hosting company has a rule where EVERY file/folder is set to 777 permissions. (They say they have a different security system in place.)

Is this ok?

- thanks.

Without deeper knowledge about the server and the configuration, it is impossible to give a proper answer to this.

Nobbie, are you implying that there exist SOME server setups whereby an all-777 file system is actually ok?

if so is it possible to give me some insight into what kind of server setup would still provide appropriate protection for an all-777 setup?

- thanks for your time.

Of course.

Any server that is owned and managed only by myself. The file systems right permissions protects users in multi-user environments. In a single user environment there is no one to protect...
