"apache could not be started"

There was a problem with unzipping the xampp.zip at first. And then Apache didn't work.

What do you need to know so that you'll tell me what's wrong?

Sorry, too less information to help you.
What kind of a problem occured during unzipping?
What kind of error messages do you receive if you try to start apache?
Please take a look into the error logs of apache. These are always a good start to solve your problems.

ok the second time I installed the unzipping worked fine but when I doubleclicked the apachestart couldn't execute. If there was the ability to screencap and paste it in the forum I would have.

You should execute the bat from commandline.

Ok so I'm playing around with the config file by changing a few things:

The anti-virus is blocking port 80.
But it's giving another error in the C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe:

You have another webserver running on your box. Stop that one, and you can start XAMPP/Apache (without changes in condfig files).

Or did you try to start XAMPP/Apache twice?

(use "xampp_portcheck.exe" to see what happens on the standard ports)

I have WAMP and IIS 5.1. I stopped WAMP but not sure how to stop IIS.

In your service-list. There has to be an entry like "internet information server (service?)" or something like that

I found IIS by searching and disconnected it. But port 443 is a problem as I mentioned above still.

I'm no expert at this whether it is destined to work but I opened c:\xampp\conf\extra\httpd-ssl.conf
and put # in front of all the lines mentioning 443 ( my guess is that # blocks the lines ) and put 444 with the necessary commands.
But now the problem is 3066 is still blocked. What's that anyways?

That means, that youve not stopped any webservices on your system
