Apache ignoriert DirectoryIndex???

Hallo,
habe hier auf Debian sarge den Apache SSL installiert, jetzt hab ich da ne PHP-Datei index.php in nem Verzeichniss, die ich über http://xyz/index.php anschauen kann, die aber über http://xyz nich angezeigt wird :-/ Firefox bietet mir stattdessen die datei umkompiliert als "PHTML file" zum download an.
PHP funktioniert also, als nächstes hatte ich, um den Fehler rauszufinden mit dem DirectoryIndex rumgespielt, mal ne andere Datei an den Anfang geschrieben... es hat nichts genutzt, apache bietet mir weiterhin eine phtml file zum download an... die mod_dir.so ist in der modules.conf aktiviert, hier noch die beiden Abschnitte aus der httpd-conf, hoffe mir kann jemand helfen.
