Low http DDoS protection

Postby milkin.vl » 24. June 2022 01:21

Hello, pls help me. There is a low http dos attack on the Apache server from a specific ip. If I block this ip in .htaccess - will it help? Or Apache will first try to read the entire request (including the body), and only then will it check the possibility of access from this ip and return error 403.

If your server is attacked by a single IP it is not a DDOS but maybe a DOS attack.
To handle such DOS attacks efficiently you should try to block the request at the very first decice you have control to, like a Firewall, Router etc.
Blocking a request by Apache might help to reduce, but it is not the most efficient way.
