assigend user password now can not access

Just installed xampp 7.1.7 for windows

The installation created root users for
User Host
root 127.0.0.1
root localhost

For User Root and local host 127.0.0.1 I changed it from no password to a password - honcho

this not prevents me from accessing the PHPmyAdmin and I get a login error

I went to the file c:\xampp\phpMyAdinin\config.inc (its a PCP file) and opened it and assigned the honcho password to

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'config';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'honcho';
