Xdebug installation

Hello,
I installed XAMPP 8.2.4-0 on my macBook/M3/Sonoma 14.2 -> ok.
To enable Xdebug I added the line "extension = xdebug.so" as shown in the HOW-TO guide.
But the xdebug extension doesn't appear in phpinfo after relaunching Apache as instructed!
Can someone tell me why?
