MacOS Failed Upload

Problems with the Mac OS X version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

MacOS Failed Upload

Postby CassiesOak » 01. March 2022 23:57

I have been trying to upload images and tried to install an extension--my Mac will not permit either. Does anyone have any suggestions? It is macOS Monterey 12.0.1 and Xampp 8.1.2. It seems like there must be a setting on my Mac which is preventing this. Thanks for any ideas/assistance. I did check to see if anyone else posted this issue and did not see one which, again, points to my computer preventing it.

What error do you receive when trying to do this?

Thank you so much for responding. All I get when is click on CMS/Media, find the image to upload off computer to the localhost site, says "Unable to Upload Image." When I went to the article where I want the image and clicked on "image," there was no place in the pop-up to "upload from file" (as it appeared on previous versions of Joomla).

When I tried to install a package; went to "install from file" (I had already downloaded the jce to my desktop); selected the file, it unzipped for me to choose file instead of installing and each sub-folder had numerous ".zip" files. Tried using "install from website," found it in the list, clicked and it opened in another window for me to download instead of choosing the proper one and it just installs.

I suspect these issues may be related which is why I put in one post.

Hmmm…. Log files on the server don’t show any sort of error or anything like that? I haven’t run across this myself but also have not been using Joomla, therefore i may not be much help.

I found these logs from the day I was trying to upload pictures, but don't know if they help--they're "Greek" to me. The second set of logs are from the phperror folder which may have something to do with why I cannot install jce or akeeba?

I think I found the answer to installing the extensions: "Warning The Joomla temporary folder is not writable or does not exist. This may cause issues when trying to upload extensions to Joomla. If you are having issues uploading extensions, make sure the folder defined in your configuration.php exists or check the '/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/npgs41/tmp' and set it to be writeable and see if this fixes the issue." So I need to research how to fix it; perhaps that will fix the image issue also.

Good morning,
Sorry about the delay in my reply.
Yes in looking at the second set of logs you sent it does seem to be a rights issue.
The folder that is mentioned in that error if you right click and go to info, at the bottom should be the current rights to that location.
Most likely you will need to unlock to change these rights as I believe the default will be read only.
On the past when i have had similar issues i needed to change the everyone group to have read and write access. As this was a test environment for me i did not have security concerns. However, your situation may be different and you may need to be a little more exact or restrictive than that.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much--so many things seem more difficult on the MacOS, but perhaps more secure generally. No problem on the delay--I will be unable to get back to this project for a few days anyway. I will advise if this took care of both issues which "seem" like they could be related.

I could never resolve it so I switched to MAMP on my MacBook and use XXAMP on my Windows....two computers, two programs, multiple choices when I'm working on a website! Familiarity with both I've found to be beneficial.
