Problem getting started Xampp

Postby TerenceMurphy » 08. September 2021 12:53

On Mac, Big Sur 11.5.2, trying to install XAMPP 8.1.10-0 (not the VM version, working that out took ages). All files unpacked, but I then get to Welcome pop-up, offers: Go to Application: Open Application Folder: Visit Apache Friends: Get Support...what do I do now...XAMPP doesn't appear to be installed as the icon in the Dock is a gear wheel, not the Xampp logo.

When I try the Manage Servers tab, I see that mySQL is not running (nor is ProFTPD, but I don't think I need that). Apache webserver is running. I click on MySQL and hit 'Start'...the button goes orange for a while then reverts to red.

What am I doing wrong...I am a newbie to all this and it does not appear to be operating the way I expected. Any help or pointers to clearer installation instructions would be valuable.

Also, if I click on 'Go To Application' I am sent to my browser...what is that all about?

Thnx,
