Edite files don't update

Hello there,
I'm trying to install a copy of my company website locally so I've installed xampp with php 7.3, setting up the database but when loading the index.php it says that it can't connect to database. After testing various versions of credentials I've noticed the problem was not a database related one. I say that because I've added prints and die instructions in the edited script and the changes don't appear in the browser after refresh (and server restart). Does someone have an idea?

PS: I'm on Big Sur

I've reinstalled XAMPP and rebooted and re-edited the file and now modifications are committed
