XAMPP for Mac OS X El Capitan v. 10.11.6

What version of XAMPP will work on my iMac?
Each version of XAMPP I've tried so far gives me an error message saying I need to use the Mac OSX native installer, but that link takes me back to the current versions of XAMPP available for download.
Nor can I find a version of XAMPP-VM that will install. I download it, but cannot drag the version to my applications folder, so I guess it is also unsuitable.
