Configure authentification for phpMyAdmin

Postby mrobin44 » 06. January 2020 01:35

I need to change the default settings for in the config.inc.php file. When I open the file in my text editor and make the appropriate changes (cookie for auth_type, and blank string for username and password) I am not authorized to save the file. I went to Get Info, then Sharing & Permissions to add myself and give myself permission but I get a message that I do not have permission to add myeself. Can you please advise as to how I can adjust the file? I use MAC OS Catalina.

Edit the file via "sudo" with root permissions.

I am downloading this for a class for a masters degree in ComputerScience so I am still new to this subject. The book my professor told me to use says that I should have a file path as follows: /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php . I downloaded the most recent version which is for Mac OS X operating system (I have Mac OS Catalina) and no such file path is available with the most recent version of XAMPP for MAC. The only way I have access to the files is by starting XAMPP, running the programs, then connecting to loaclhost:8080. My questions are:
1. Should I have a file on my computer that has access to the config.inc.php file?
2. If so how do I get the files on my computer as the most recent version does not provide these files?
3. How do I edit the file via "sudo" with root permissions? When I tried to change the file originally I used a text editor. Is that something I type into the file before I hit save?

Don't use the VM version, use the normal installer.

Okay how do I find the the normal installer? I thought I was using the normal installer. Does that mean I need to use a later version? the download links don't tell me if I am downloading the VM or the normal version. Thanks for all the help and your patience being that I an new the computer science.

On https://www.apachefriends.org/download.php you find three VM versions (the 300MB ones with VM in the filename) and three installer versions (the 155MB ones with installer in the filename)

Hi, im having the exact same problem. Havent been able to fix it. Probably i have as well the VM version.

I have also mac os catalina.

On the link of download theres no VM to identify which one is the correct version. Can you help us providing the version number with the specific size to be able to download the new version.

Thanks in advance!

As before the versions having the much lower file size are the installer versions.
