No text editor in XAMPP terminal

Postby Xamax » 11. December 2018 19:17

I have installed the XAMPP VM version 7.2.3 on Mac OS 10.13.3 (High Sierra). Everything installed easily and works like a charm except for one thing: when I launch the Terminal I find my self in a Linux environment (Debian) but there seems to be no text editor. I like using vi and it usually comes with any Linux environment, but I can't find it on the XAMPP VM. I get a "bash not found" message. No luck with any of the other text editors either (emacs, nano). How can I get vi to work in the XAMPP terminal? I want to be able to edit text files directly from the XAMPP terminal.

Here is a screenshot .

I used the solution below.

apt-get update
apt-get install vim nano
cpclaudio.cp

Or you can mount the volume in the Volumes tab of the application, click Explore and use the editor of choice of the Mac

manud, do you know how to do the opposite of that?

I have many projects that need a lot of disk space and I would like to mount a folder from the host OS as a volume inside of the VM so that apache and php inside the VM can serve those files.
