Xampp 7 2 0 0 not installing correctly

Postby ghanson » 07. January 2018 14:38

Hi there,
I downloaded xampp-osx-7.2.0-0-vm.dmg yesterday, 6th Jan 2018. I'm on MacOS Sierra v 10.12.6.
The Apache and MySql are running on the stack manager. I clicked on "Go to application" & I sawthe usual "Welcome to XAMPP for 7.2.0-0" page but the URL is http://192.168.64.2/dashboard/ instead of http://localhost.
When I try to get to phpMyAdmin I get taken to http://192.168.64.2/phpmyadmin/ I see Access forbidden! and this message:
New XAMPP security concept:
Access to the requested directory is only available from the local network.
This setting can be configured in the file "httpd-xampp.conf".

I'm out of my depth here. In the past I've been able to install Xampp really easily.
What can I do to get it working?

Cheers

You download and installed the specialized VM (VirtualMachine) Version of Xampp, read the FAQ for your questions: https://www.apachefriends.org/faq_stackman.html

Thanks, Nobble, for pointing me in the right direction. Everything is fine now I have the right version.
The list on https://www.apachefriends.org/download.html could make it clearer that there are two versions of Xampp for Mac.

How? It clearly says "XAMPP-VM" and there is a "Whats included" link for each version and a "More info about Xampp-VM", all links in green letters and hard to miss. I think the problem is vice verse, it is very well documented, but nobody (at least you) reads anything and simply picks up randomly any version. Why? If i see different downloads for my approach, i would of course read the documentation before i decide where to go.

Hi again, Nobble.
I re-install Xampp about once every two years so I'm not familiar with it the way you are.

I'm giving what I hope is helpful feedback for developers. I find Xampp very useful for testing my sites and I'm grateful to the developers.
I've been using Xampp for 7 years and I think this is the first time I've needed to come here and ask for help.

For me the -VM was just part of the name. Simply presenting the 2 MacOS versions as two separate lists (or sub-lists) would have alerted me to the fact I had to make a choice which I hadn't had to do in the past.

It's true I don't click to read further information for all the apps I use and I'm not ashamed of it - life's too short!

Thanks again.

Cheers,
Glenys

Exactly - life is too short. And why do you waste hours and days? As you dont understand, what is happening on your machine, finally you have to ask in a forum, have to wait for proper answers? All this as you have no idea, what you installed on your machine. Instead, i take a couple of minutes (its definately not more than 5 minutes) to read the basic infos about the VM Version, and finally I can answer your(!!!) question, even if i am NOT a member of Xampp/Bitnami and i do NOT have any OSX machine.

What a useless waste of time of your life! Why did you decide to waste your time so utterly unnecessary? Its a pretty bad idea not to read instructions, it definately does not safe your time. And, what happens if nobody will help you? I cannot find any usage in not reading basic documentation. And i wouldnt be proud of it. No, this is really not desirable.
