Wordpress issues with XAMPP on macOS

I recently installed XAMPP for OSX. I installed Wordpress on it and it works till the time I try to install a theme on it. Then it asked me for the URL and FTP credentials. I kept getting non-writeable folder errors and temporarily I've changed the folder and file permissions to 777. Also it shows 'bitnami' as the user and group that the folder belongs to. Is that ok? What am I doing wrong?
