Hi,

We are looking into it, it seems a specific error for OS X Sierra, it works properly in newer OS X versions.

????

OS X Sierra already is the newest version and finally its not called OSX anymore, but "macOS" instead.

You are right, I was originally preparing a different response and it seems I ended up mixing them.

As we could not reproduce the issue on older OS X versions, we originally thought it may be related to your Sierra version, but on closer inspection to your hardware information, it is more likely to be related to an old CPU:

https://apple.stackexchange.com/questio ... -framework

Could you check the output of executing the command mentioned in the thread?

Code: Select all
 sysctl kern.hv_support

If it outputs something like:

Code: Select all
 kern.hv_support: 0

That would confirm is about a non-supported CPU.

Regarding OS X versus macOS, you are also right. I tend to forget it when referring to it, I guess you could call me old fashioned :)

Yes and no.

Yes: it helps to clarify the problem (unsupported CPU)
No: it means, that your Mac cannot use this Xampp stack, which is based on a virtual machine which requires a newer CPU than yours. You have to install the "normal" Xampp OSX release instead.

Oh well at lest we have a answer to the problem for myself and others.
I have used the "normal" one before and it does work well on my mac but i just wanted to run it more like production.

Thanks to all.

Glad to know this is the problem. I have the same issue on MacOS 10.12.5 Sierra on a 2010 Macbook Pro.

So how do we completely uninstall XAMPP-VM, since it doesn't appear to come with an uninstaller?

You can remove XAMPP from "/Applications" folder and the data (logs, VMs,..) from the "~/.bitnami" folder. I hope it helps.

I am having the same problem on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
running Sierra, 10.12.6
Sorry, but I would not call this an "old CPU" since it is now only mid 2017, so its not even 2 years old and were made for almost a year after that.

INFO: Starting "XAMPP" stack
ERROR: Error starting "XAMPP" stack: cannot calculate MAC address: signal: killed

Bummed..

I have done: sysctl kern.hv_support and response was: kern.hv_support: 1
Using XAMPP VM

I have the same problem.
I tried updating version 7.0.3-1 (worked) to 7.1.8-0-preview (had this problem)
MacOS 10.12.6 (latest)
MacBook Pro Late 2011 (Sandy Bridge 2760QM)
sysctl kern.hvsupport rests in kern.hv_support: 1 (so theory of cause suggested above (CPU too old) does not seem to be the problem).

Starting as normal user or root (from console) results in the same result
INFO: Starting "XAMPP" stack
ERROR: Error starting "XAMPP" stack: cannot calculate MAC address: signal: killed

I have a 2011 macbook pro with macOS Sierra and my CPU is supported (kern.hv_support: 1).
Still, I'm receiving the same message: ERROR: Error starting "XAMPP" stack: cannot calculate MAC address: signal: killed
