this version of PCRE is compiled without UTF support

Hello,

have recently installed XAMPP 5.6.15-1 on MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan. When testing my php application, I get:
"this version of PCRE is compiled without UTF support at offset 0",
obviously from a REGEXP part in an SQL statement.

When reading existing entries regarding this message, it seems that XAMPP binary as such is not supporting UTF-8, and I must compile my own appache.

Question: Is there any simpler method to get this UTF-8 support within XAMPP? Why isn't it per default in the XAMPP binary.
