Python in XAMPP

Postby tomihasa » 03. August 2015 12:08

I'm trying to make Python work in XAMPP (Python 3.4.3 or Python 2.7.6, XAMPP 5.6.3-0, OS X 10.10). I could use CGI, but as far as I know, it is a slow option. Also, I can't make Python and CGI work in XAMPP. So, can I use a Python module for Apache and how do I install it in the XAMPP version of Apache? Or can I use PHP to execute Python programs?

Regarding my CGI problem, here is my helloworld.py (and helloworld.cgi) in three locations /Applications/XAMPP/cgi-bin , /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs , /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/python:

Code: Select all
#!/usr/bin/python
# helloworld.py

print "Content-type:text/html\r\n\r\n"
print '<html>'
print '<head>'
print '<title>Hello Word - First CGI Program</title>'
print '</head>'
print '<body>'
print '<h2>Hello Word! This is my first CGI program</h2>'
print '</body>'
print '</html>'

Here are the resulting pages:

http://127.0.0.1/helloworld.py
"Server error" ... "End of script output before headers"

http://127.0.0.1/cgi-bin/helloworld.py
"Server error" ... "End of script output before headers"

http://127.0.0.1/htdocs/helloworld.py
"Error 404" ... "object not found"

http://127.0.0.1/python/helloworld.py
"Server error" ... "End of script output before headers"

I have found two httpd.conf files in XAMPP directories. Here are their contents:

/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/apache2/conf/httpd.conf :

Code: Select all
Alias /bitnami/ "/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/apache2/htdocs/"
Alias /bitnami "/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/apache2/htdocs"

<Directory "/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/apache2/htdocs">
    Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
    AllowOverride All
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
</Directory>

/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/etc/httpd.conf :

Code: Select all
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file.  It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do.  They're here only as hints or reminders.  If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path.  If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so 'log/access_log'
# with ServerRoot set to '/www' will be interpreted by the
# server as '/www/log/access_log', where as '/log/access_log' will be
# interpreted as '/log/access_log'.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path.  If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to specify a local disk on the
# Mutex directive, if file-based mutexes are used.  If you wish to share the
# same ServerRoot for multiple httpd daemons, you will need to change at
# least PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles"

#
# Mutex: Allows you to set the mutex mechanism and mutex file directory
# for individual mutexes, or change the global defaults
#
# Uncomment and change the directory if mutexes are file-based and the default
# mutex file directory is not on a local disk or is not appropriate for some
# other reason.
#
# Mutex default:logs

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 80

I dont think that python is stored in /usr/bin/python on an OSX machine. This usually is the path of python under linux. You have to find out, where the module python is stored and must apply that path instead of /usr/bin/python

I have also tried these with the same results:

Code: Select all
#!/usr/local/bin/python3
#!/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.4/bin/python3

Here are the locations of my pythons:

Code: Select all
which python
/usr/bin/python

type -a python
python is /usr/bin/python

which python3
/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.4/bin/python3

type -a python3
python3 is /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.4/bin/python3
python3 is /usr/local/bin/python3

Links in /usr/bin:

Code: Select all
python2.6 -> ../../System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/python2.6

python2.7 -> ../../System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/bin/python2.7

Links in /usr/local/bin:

Should I try to edit the environment variables of OS X and how should I begin doing that?
