phpMyAdmin not logged in

Hi, I have installed Xampp through Bitnami, have started the MySQL Database, Apache Web Server and ProFTPD servers in Xampp 1.8.3-4, but when going to the phpMyAdmin page I am getting the error message:

#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

I am also unable to login to the Wordpress interface which comes up after installation- I have tried different login combinations.
I attempted to change the config.inc.php file in the phpmyadmin folder but it is locked and I am unsure what details go in there anyway!
Any help would be appreciated.
