Uninstall or upgrade XAMPP 1.7.3

I have had XAMPP 1.7.3 beta-1 installed for a while now on my Mac OS 10.9.3, and used it some. I did put a password on the root directory. Now I am working through a new course on PHP/MYSQL, and I either want to uninstall it and upgrade to a more recent version, or replace it with MAMP. I know these uninstall operations can be tricky, and I want to do it right. I note that in the more recent versions of XAMPP, there is an uninstall script that can be run, but I can find no such script in my XAMPP folders for 1.7.3. Nor can I find any clear directions for doing so, even though I have searched for a while on the web. I would appreciate being directed to information on how to do this correctly.
