New mysql install stepping on XAMPP

I'm preparing a course and I hope to have my students use XAMPP. Everything was working, then I installed mysql (AGAIN?! DOH!) so I could use the SQL Workbench. That install of mysql works fine, but now XAMPP won't start mysql because a copy is already running.

Please help me Reconfigure XAMPP to use the non-XAMPP mysql (START/STOP ability from XAMPP Control panel not needed)
