Help getting oci8 extension to work on XAMPP for OS X Lion

Hello all! This is my first time on here. I am working on a project where I need to access a Oracle DB. I am trying to enable oci8.so extension in PHP. I have been doing a lot of searching on how to install the extension, but I have been unsuccessful. I have been working with tutorials on how to download the Oracle instantclient basic and sdk. I believe I compiled instantclient and them built the extension. I moved the oci8.so extension into the php extension folder, but the extension is not loading when I would restart Apache. First, can oci8.so be enabled on XAMPP? If so, can someone help me on how to enable this extension? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
