Can't upload images to WordPress with XAMPP

I can't upload images to to wordpress using xampp. Have I done something wrong? Below are the messages I get when I try to upload a background image and an image to media library.

Any advice gratefully received.

I honestly dont know, looks like there is a slim chance its a permissions issue.

Have you tried using the disk utility to repair permissions for your disk?
