All kinds of errors. MYSQL will not start and 500 error.

Postby jaykai » 21. October 2011 20:04

I woke up this morning to check on our server and make some changes and after restarting, MYSQL will not start and now I'm getting a 500 internal error. I also checked all permissions and everything in that folder is 777. This is driving me crazy. I booted from a backup, which also had this error, so I don't know what to do. :?: Any help would GREATLY be appreciated.

Here's the error from the log:

My "guess" only is that you had some disk problems.

Note that line:
"111021 14:51:28 mysqld_safe Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql
Warning: World-writable config file '/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/etc/my.cnf' is ignored

I don't have a Mac, BUT I believe I can think through how to find to what the deal is on MySQL
Consult the XAMPP for Mac OS X page > Where to find things
/Applications/XAMPP/etc/my.cnf

This tells JonB that things are 'fouled up' in XAMMPville on your machine. Its passing over the file it should be reading for the configuration.

The ISE 500 error happens "when" you do "what"????

Now - what's wrong??? As I said before things could be fouled up on the disk. It could also be that your restoration has tangled the ownership and/or permissions of critical files. After all, despite what SJ may have convinced everyone, OS X is really a very advanced shell for BSD (derived form NextStep) - thus all those Unix filesystem thingies ARE actually important.

1st - I'd try to answer two questions - What exactly still works, and what does NOT work.

2nd - I'd look for some good Mac-specific advice on checking your filesystem & disk.

3rd. - Before you restored, you DID get a backup of how things were, right???

4th. - It would be valuable to describe how the 'backup' was made, and how it was 'restored'

Good Luck, and I hope you have already located the problem, and my advice is unnecessary.
