XAMPP and DreamWeaver (MacOS 10.6.7) 1.7.3 [SOLVED]

Postby LDMartin1959 » 29. September 2011 03:08

I am taking a first term PHP class. We have been given instructions on the installation and configuration of XAMPP and editors. The given instructions do not seem to be working. I have not been able to get any assistance from the instructor to this point as he is busy and doesn't have a Mac. The instructions we were given are available here < https://files.me.com/ldmartin1959/qbcv9p > and here < files.me.com/ldmartin1959/vujjff >. The problems I am having begin in the second document, "Dreamweaver CS5: Setting up a local PHP Testing Server". I have followed the instructions and as far as I can see have made no errors. Yet, it doesn't work. I get an error message in DreamWeaver / CS5 that reads, "Dynamically-related files could not be resolved because the server is out of memory or disk space." This is apparently a XAMPP configuration issue as I have 16GB of ram and 2TB of hard drive space, so I am definitely not out of memory or disk space.

Anyone got any clues?

What XAMPP version and what is your Mac version?
viewtopic.php?f=29&t=48333

Does your XAMPP installation work without any errors?
Read the apache error.log file.

What do you see when you go to http://localhost in your browser?

Can you exercise all the demos without error?

This is the Local site folder: /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/yourwebsite
This is the Web URL: http://localhost/yourwebsite
Replace 'yourwebsite' with the folder name that you have stored your web site files and folders.

Sorry about that:

XAMPP v1.7.3

MacOS 10.6.7

Apparently no installation errors for XAMPP as I do not find a error.log file.

http://localhost currently shows the directory contents of that directory. This may not be as normal as the instructor had us replace the default text.php file with a custom file he provided.

Everything else works without error.

I have no local 'yourwebsite' defined at present. There does not seem to be any instruction to do that. Currently the local site folder is defined in DW as '/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs' as directed in the instructions.

Before learning DW you should learn some points about the server you are to use.

So before you start on DW you must establish that XAMPP is working correctly or DW will simply not work no matter how you configure it.

That is what we are hear to do not to help in any way with how DW functions.

No log file means that Apache has never started as it creates that file automatically.

Did you start Apache and MySQL? if so, are they both still running?

What do you see when you type http://localhost/xampp/index.php

Read the readme_en.txt file in the xamppfiles directory.

No, this is one of the many Dreamweaver issues posted here every now and then. I can never recommend this editor to beginners because configurating is a mess, error messages are not helpful and all of this isn't really user friendly.

DW is part of the configuration directed by the instructor.

According to the XAMPP control panel Apache and MySQL are running.

The Welcome/Congrats page.

There is no such file anywhere in the XAMPP directory structure.

I am no expert on DreamWeaver by any means but I am somewhat familiar with it. Familiar enough with it to know I prefer Coda!! :)

Ahhh - the power of Google to exonerate oneself

Use this Google Search 'Dynamically-related files could not be resolved because the server is out of memory or disk space.'

http://forum.mamp.info/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11697

http://forums.techguy.org/web-design-de ... admin.html

definitely a DreamWither problem NOT a XAMMP issue

I think one of those links will bring you a solution - else do what I do - post on Adobe forums
http://forums.adobe.com/community/dreamweaver

Good Luck

JonB, I'll check out those links. It didn't occur to me to put the entire message in the search box. I was just picking what I thought would be the important words. And of course, I seem to always pick the wrong words!! :)

JonD, Google lied. Although those links do have to do with DreamWeaver and PHP, they do not content the info Google believes they do and the search phrase does not appear. But I'll keep working that angle.

Oh, and as far as the instructor goes... I've heard nothing but good things about him from other students. It could be that the inclusion of DreamWeaver here was a decision that was made by others or as a concession to the school IT department who has control over how the school computers are configured and what software is installed. Even though this particular class of the course is on-line, I am sure whomever made the decision on the inclusion had to take into consideration the fact that the lab computers have DW on them, do not have Komodo or Coda or other programming editors and that the students are prohibited from installing any such software.

I don't think Google lied - what did I/Google miss about this:

I am about to buy a mamp pro and am still on the testing level...After I installed mamp pro I started having problems with my dreamweaver cs5 for dynamic php files..I started receiving different mistakes in dreamweaver like "dynamic-related files could not be resolved because the server is out of memory or disc space"??? When i try to open my php files, dreamweaver states that the file is locked and can be only viewed??? I didn't have any problems when just had been using mamp..., are there special issues between mamp pro and dreamweaver??? Why in mamp pro the document root is not allowed in /application folder, when it was possible in mamp...

"As I had stated in the above paragraph it states "Dynamically-related files could not be resolved because the site definition is not correct for the server".

Under basic configuration settings:

Site Information

Site name: Internal HPL

Local Site Folder: D:\Program Files\Adobe\DW-CIB\Test Site\Test_Ent_Site\wamp\www\Internal HPL\

Then under server configuration settings:

I set the Server name as: LocalPhp

Connect using: Local/Network

Server Folder: D:\Program Files\Adobe\DW-CIB\Test Site\Test_Ent_Site\wamp\www\Internal HPL\

Web URL: http://localhost:80/DW-CIB/Test Site/Test_En_Site/wamp/www/Internal HPL

Then under advanced configuration setting I set the correct Server Model to PHP Mysql

Also my Wampserver 2.0 is running fine, and the tested the Port which is also accessible.

SOMEONE, ANYONE, PLEASE HELP"

So, its apparently a problem - period - one is on MAMP another on WAMP and they are having/had the same issues you are having now -

I would guess its a configuration issue with Dreamweaver, but I'm not on Apache's payroll.

Good Luck

JonB, Interesting. When I searched on the page for the term disc space nothing turned up. I musta spelled it with a 'k' by mistake. :(

Okay, got it sorted out. And I feel stupid. For whatever reason, apparently XAMPP installs certain files with limited rights, and in reading the instructions off the screen I missed a step about changing the access rights. I've started to notice lately that when I read a long list of instructions off a screen I have a tendency to loose my place more easily than off paper, and as a result seem to miss things from time to time. I guess I'm gonna spend the money to print more stuff out. Sorry everybody.
