Local to live?

Postby roblysak » 18. July 2011 12:38

Hi, think i went over my head!
I have constructed a joomla 1.6 web site using XAMPP on my Mac. I did this because internet here on the BVI Islands are extremely slow, and wasn't able to build it properly cause of power outages, slow up load speeds ect. After reading thru the forums, i think i made a mistake in using XAMPP for the wrong reason, now that i have finished building the site on local, i would like to upload the files to a server to make it live. Is this a possibility?

Thanks

Sure. Many developers do their programming work local and upload their finish product to any webhoster.
We don't provide any support via personal channels like PM, email, Skype, TeamViewer!

It's like porn for programmers 8)

Depending on your requirements, you may need to migrate (backup from local, import to remote) some of your databases, but -- other than that -- Altrea is dead-on (and I do this all the time myself also).

Good Luck

Sorry Jon, you mention i may have to migrate some of my data bases, well i am having error messages after FTP'ing the files to the server (zipped) it reads the following
Table 'site-name.jos_session' doesn't exist SQL=INSERT INTO `jos_session` (`session_id`, `client_id`, `time`) VALUES ('tp4o9bek69m1cjee1bq5fsjhd7', 0, 1312163592)
Where would i find the data bases and how do i migrate the? Sorry for asking, ime very new to XAMPP and its systems

PS - "site-name" is replacing my actual sites name

Thanks again for the advise and help!
