XAMPP on OS X how to remove apache2?

Postby peterv6 » 20. March 2011 01:12

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.6 on a 17" MacBook Pro. I had MySQL and apache2 installed on it. I've successfully removed MySQL, and now want to remove apache2 so that I can install XAMPP and all it's "modules". Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find out how to uninstall apache2. Do I need to uninstall it prior to installing XAMPP? (My assumption and preference is yes.) Can someone, anyone help me out with figuring out how to remove/uninstall apache2 from OS X? I'll be grateful for any and all advice, suggestions and comments.
Thanks,
Peter V.

You don't need to remove Mac OS X's built-in Apache in order to run XAMPP. But what you need to do is make sure the built-in Apache is not running when you start XAMPP:
1. Open System preferences.
2. Go to "Share".
3. Turn off "Webserver" if it is turned on.
Now you can start XAMPP.

Megachriz, I hope you can help me one more time. I took your advice and it worked fine. The problem I'm having now is I can't get a secure connection (https) using XAMPP. I've searched documentation, the web, everything I can think of, and I can not find anything that will help me figure out how to fix this problem. According to some things I've read, all I should need to do is type "https://localhost/" into my browser and I'd get a secure connection, but all I get is an "Unable to Connect" message. I don't have a clue where to start debugging this. I'd really appreciate your (or anyone's) help on this.
Thanks,
Peter V.

Sorry, but I never setup a secure connection in XAMPP.

SOLVED - XAMPP on OS X how to remove apache2?

No problem, I figured out what the problem was. In older versions of XAMPP ssl was enabled by default. In 1.7.3 you have to run the following command to enable it: /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/xampp enablessl

It's not documented anywhere, I only found it by trial and error rooting around in the terminal.
