another mysql server is already running!

new to this! and have 2 problems.

1) trying to start MySQL in controller panel and get popup msg. "another mysql server is already running!" which have restarted computer and no other apps running just XAMPP still gives me this msg.

2) MySQL Error#: 2002 - Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/var/mysql/musql.sock' (2)

Any help be much appreciated

Probably there is another webserver running. Mac OS X comes with a built-in webserver.
