XAMP and wordpress media files

Postby sarsells » 25. August 2010 15:26

Hi
Please can someone help me. I have posted my problem on the wordpress forum, and have not had any responses so far!
I havemy Xap server up and running. I am using a wordpress installation to build a new site. However, I am not able to upload any images to the site.
When I try to do so, I get the following error message from wordpress
Unable to create directory /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/08. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I had a look and I did not have an uploads folder in the location mentioned above, so I created on, and a 2010 folder, and a 08 folder..... I put some images inside it, and was not able to see them in my media folder on wordpress.

Can anyone help here?
My folders are all writable.

Many thanks

Sarah

Which directory/file permissions do the Apache user have on your created wordpress directory and files?
We don't provide any support via personal channels like PM, email, Skype, TeamViewer!

To check what permissions are set to the wordpress directory, do this:

1. In Finder, select the folder or file you want to know the permissions from.
2. Choose 'Get info' from the File menu (or type Command i).
3. In the get-info window, go to Sharing & Permissions. You can see here who has what permissions to the folder/file.

In this case the webserver needs read/write access. The webserver operates with the name 'nobody' by default. I don't know how you can select this user with Mac OS X 10.5 and higher, but I usually give read & write permissions to everyone if the webserver needs access. You can do this on your localhost, but you should never use this setting on production servers, due to security.

For anyone who is coming to this thread, if you need write permissions yourself to a file/folder, check this thread:
