500 error when using htaccess Options +FollowSymLinks

I want to make a SEO friendly URL using Htaccess rewrite, but when I try to add the following line I get a (500) server error.

Options +FollowSymLinks

It does work on Windows using USB Webserver, so I think it's a bug in XAMPP.
I used Google but couldn't find a proper solution. Restarting Apache or XAMPP doesn't work.
