Frustrated with 403

Postby horsesbreed » 13. May 2010 20:24

Hello, I just installed joomla in the htdocs folder but when I visit http://localhost/joomla I get this error:
"
Access forbidden!

You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
Error 403
"
Anyone know why it would be read protected by default? How do I change this? I don't even know how to establish password protection for my 'root' user yet.
Thanks

It's probably a permissions issue. You want to make the htDocs (or Joom folder) read-write to everyone as well as all the files in it. You can do this by doing a "get info" on the folder from Finder although it is easier from the Terminal by typing in:

chmod -R 777 /applications/xampp/htdocs

or

chmod -R 777 /applications/xampp/htdocs/your-joom-folder

If the above does not fix it, then maybe you have a MySQL privileges issue. You might take this issue to a Joom community.
