MySQL wont start

Postby wotnow » 02. February 2010 01:57

Hi i have just installed XAMPP on my Mac OSX 10.5.8. When I use the XAMPP control, the MySQL server says that it wont start because their is another MySQL server running. I had previously installed MAMP but was having configuration problems so trashed it and downloaded XAMPP. I have turned web sharing off in system preferences and used spotlight to find other instances of MySQL but the only ones I can find are installed within the Adobe Creative Suite (ie Dreamweaver and Contribute and I wasnt sure whether they were part of the adobe program) and in XAMPP. I have rung apple support but they were unable to help me and suggested i contact you. Really appreciate any help given, thanks everyone.

I know nobody has replied but I found the answer to the problem myself. In system preferences under other at the bottom there is an icon for mysql and you click on that to turn it off. Simple but effective.
