Postby rickyspires » 07. January 2010 11:04

hello.

sorry but im having trouble getting into my phpmyadmin through terminal.

i have looked at tones of forum posts but nothing seems to work.

im on mac osx 10.5.8 Leopard
im using xampp 1.7.2

my phpmyadmin is located at /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/phpmyadmin

i tried /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin/mysql which got me to mysql but then when i input a command to create a database i got:

mysql> CREATE DATABASE widget_corp;
ERROR 1044 (42000): Access denied for user ''@'localhost' to database 'widget_corp'

all i need to do is login and create databases using terminal.... please help.

many thanks

i got it working in the end :)

1 - i reinstalled xampp
2 - logged in to phpmyadmin and set the privilege for root user @ localhost
3 - edited the config.inc.php file
4 - logged in to terminal with command /sudo su
5 - setup my security with /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/xampp security
6 - found my mysql at /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin/mysql
7 - typed - mysql> CREATE DATABASE widget_corp;

Bless you! Bless you! Bless you! I have been struggling with this for weeks! I was trying to use MySQL with Snow Leopard to no avail. Finally I downloaded XAMPP, turned on Apache, MySQL and FTP, typed in /applications/xampp/xamppfiles/bin/mysql from your post. And I saw that beautiful command promp mysql>

Thank you again!

You are positively wonderful. I have installed reinstalled and resorted to illegal substances but still no luck but now..... I am happily creating databases and administering mysql in the Terminal. Such a simple solution to a really annoying problem
Seriously posts like yours are life savers.

Thank you
