XAMPP & Tomcat

I am trying to link Tomcat 5.5.28 to XAMPP 1.7.2a. My intentions are to install Apache James 2.3.2 to use as a mail server and of course I want everything to "play nice". I have both XAMPP & Tomcat working separately but the problem I have is how and where do I add the file named "mod_jk-1.2.25-httpd-2.2.6.so" to connect XAMPP to Tomcat? What do I have to change to do so. Further, does anyone have any words of wisdom about connecting James Mail Server?
