Re-installing XAMPP on Mac

Postby Mongoose47 » 22. August 2009 04:52

Was having problems getting Joomla to run properly so I tried reinstalling XAMPP on my Mac as follows. I deleted all the XAMPP files in my finder applications XAMPP folder. Restarted the Mac and then reinstalled XAMPP. The control panel shows MySQL as running but now I get the message when trying to install Joomla using the Joomla Web Installer "Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL". I suspect the problem results from my novice approach to reinstalling XAMPP. Please advise.

By deleting the XAMPP files you also deleted your data base. Before deleting you should export all your dbs.

Have you really started MySQL?

If yes, I guess before installing Joomla, create the database first and then run the joomla install again, pointing the database to the one you created. It may help
