/htdocs/ files gone - I am frustrated

Postby ObiektywNy » 28. July 2009 18:41

Hello all I just reinstalled XAMPP for MAC form this website http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-macosx.html#873
It asked me to overwrite the exiting files so I did it, and after that I lost whole the Apache documents root directory /Applications/XAMPP/htdocs/
All my files that I created are gone :( , please tell me that this installation software is not that stupid, and it didn't delete whole files, I was working on my portal almost 4 months, and if now everything is gone because upgrade software erasing whole folder ??
Please help how to restore those data.
I am using OS X Leopard, but my Time machine was not configured :(

You worked on something for 4 months and didn't have a backup?

The words re-install mean exactly that... always has... erase and install.

You might try this:

or a program called FileSalvage (I think it cost about $60)

For in the future, you don't even need Time Machine to make a back-up of your files.
You can easily create a back-up this way:

1. In Finder, select the folder of your project.
2. Choose 'Create Archive' from the File-menu (Tiger) or 'Compress' from the File-menu (Leopard).
The finder will create a zip-file of the folder and its contents.
3. Move the zip-file to a safe location (not inside the XAMPP folder).

I do it always this way, even though I have running Time Machine also.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way to have a Burn Folder compress everything before it burned to the CD? That would be a good utility to have.
